How to play Hostile Architect
You build the stage, then send heroes through it. The six steps below summarize the Steam description and press kit. Controls shown separately come from labels visible in official pre-alpha screenshots.
Source notes
The official pre-alpha v0.2.0 shop screenshot labels WASD Camera, Z/X Zoom, and H Heatmap. Those labels are visible source evidence, not final release controls. The gameplay loop below comes from the press kit; this is not a hands-on tutorial.
The six beats SludgeBit describes
Start with a small budget and a random set of traps from the shop. Build the stage. Release the wave. If the heroes do not break you, expand and face a larger crowd. Upgrade traps to open new uses, and unlock powers that the press kit says can change the rules and snowball.
The studio’s examples of play are specific: conveyor belts and springboards fling heroes into lava pits and spike ceilings, saw blades fill a room, and you can rebuild the annoying jumping puzzles — this time as the person who made them.
- Begin with the small starting budget described by SludgeBit.
- Choose traps from the randomly offered shop selection.
- Build the stage the heroes will cross.
- Release the hero wave once construction is finished.
- Survive, then expand the defenses for a larger crowd.
- Improve traps and unlock powers as the run progresses.
What the pre-alpha screen shows
The shop screenshot is labeled PRE-ALPHA BUILD v0.2.0. It shows Wave 9/10, a remaining counter, a coin count, health, a Restock button, and a Start Wave button. Sell chips read “Sell” with a coin amount. Those numbers are one moment in a screenshot, not design constants.
Inbound names on that same screen are The Armored Hero, The Climber, The Fighter, The Hero, and The Runner, each with a count. A player on Steam asked whether you can create your own heroes. That thread has no developer answer, so custom heroes stay unannounced.
